The Associate, Construction, Codes & Standards will report directly into the Practice Lead, collaborating with other subject matter experts to consult with clients; perform examinations, testing, research and analysis; and prepare technical reports and findings in a clear, concise, efficient and professional manner.

  • Perform site examinations in the field to assess causation and damage resulting from fire, flood, wind, vehicle and other impacts and determine an appropriate repair scope of work
  • Review compliance with building and fire codes, and applicable standards
  • Review plans and specifications to determine whether they meet relevant guidelines, codes, standards and other regulations
  • Develop and prepare technical drawings and simulations from field measurements, sketches, technical calculations, specification sheets, and other data
  • Evaluation of building department inspections and plans examination
  • Effectively research, communicate investigation and analysis findings to colleagues and others
  • Prepare technical reports based upon sound investigations and analysis
  • Manage projects according to client-approved scopes of work, and deliver high quality reports on time and within budget
  • Working towards becoming technically independent (i.e. final sign off) on all aspects of technical investigations
  • Working towards providing expert testimony in court
  • Start to develop and grow existing client base
  • Participation in industry events and seminars
  • Develop an understanding of the core values of the firm and familiarization with the strategic plan
  • Perform additional duties as required


  • Currently registered or eligible for registration with the PEO
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering ideally with experience in structural engineering and/or construction
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience (post-degree) working in an engineering, consulting or construction environment. At least 2 years experience working in Canada
  • Experience with residential and commercial building construction
  • Outstanding knowledge of building and fire codes, and NFPA standards.
  • A sound base in the application of engineering and/or scientific method to problem solving
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Excellent research and technical writing skills are a must
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients
  • Good presentation skills are an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
